File Conversion…A Necessary Task

Posted by innovativeip on September 21, 2010

Today’s Patent of the Day is U.S. Patent no. 6,947,162, issued September 20, 2005, and entitled “Systems and Methods for Converting the Format of Information,”

Today's Patent of the Day

This Patent is assigned to Hewlett Packard, and although it issued only five years ago, it was filed about nine years ago.  With hindsight, the idea seems simple enough, but when you think back 9 years, we were in an entirely different technology realm regarding ease of conversion.  Today, in 2010, not a day goes by when I don’t come into contact with a file that needs to be converted from one format to another.  Today’s Patent of the Day is thus interesting  to consider because (1) file format conversion is a critically important function for efficient data processing, and (2) the patent is an example of a “successfully issued” method patent.
