If Ever a Patent Could Benefit from a Drawing…

Posted by innovativeip on September 10, 2010

Today’s Patent of the Day is U.S. Patent no. 2,805,672, issued September 10, 1957 for a “Method of Forming Hair Curls”.

Today's Patent of the Day

You may note the absence of drawings (drawings are only required “where necessary to understand the subject matter”).  In this particular instance, though, I would find drawings to be extremely helpful in understanding this method.  However, I’ll admit that I am not “one skilled in the art” of hair styling, and perhaps if I had such skill, I would be able to practice this method simply from the description.

Another interesting consideration of this patent is relative to the current state of “method” patents.  Do you think this could be found patentable today?  Perhaps it could be argued to be transformative?

Take a read through at http://www.innovativeip.us/ofinterest.html, and give it some thought, or maybe try to create some curls.  Enjoy!
