Today’s Patent of the Day is U.S. Patent no. 737,473, issued August 25, 1903 to James R. Porter of Richmond, Illinois for his “Mechanism for Relief of Headache and Insomnia”.

Today's Patent of the Day

Interestingly, the temple contact points are actually described as glass bulbs that are to be filled with ice water.  Hmmm…my first question is, even if you didn’t have insomnia, how could you sleep with this on your head?  The world of patents never ceases to amaze, and mankind’s creativity never disappoints.

If you’d like to read the details of this device, you may view the patent in its entirety at http://www.innovativeip.us/images/pat737473.8.25.pdf.  Enjoy!
