It’s All Downhill From Here

Posted by innovativeip on August 13, 2010

As temperatures climb toward 100 on this mid-August, Friday-the-13th, today’s Patent of the Day cools us off with thoughts of winter fun.  U.S. Patent no. 408,681, issued August 13, 1889, discloses a sled.

Today's Patent of the Day

You may recognize this sled from the popular “A Christmas Story” movie, but long before, in the 1880’s, it was first sold under the name FLEXIBLE FLYER.  Today, over 125 years later, the FLEXIBLE FLYER sled is still being manufactured and sold on the market, even as antique specimens are sought after by some.  (I saw one on EBAY for $450.00).   Another great example of product longevity.
