Over 100 Years Old and Still Relevant

In a time where it seems that many new things become outdated in a matter of months, it is refreshing to recognize that some age old inventions remain essentially unchanged.  Today’s Patent of the Day is U.S. Patent 457,710, issued August 11, 1891 for a Bench Vise.

Carpenters of today might have computer-assistance for many tasks, but when positional support for a workpiece is the task at hand, the essentially simple and effective bench vise remains ready for service, even in a power failure.
