Guess What Year Faxing and Abercrombie & Fitch Began? 1892?!!

Posted by innovativeip on July 19, 2010

Yes, it is true.  Abercrombie & Fitch became a sports outfitter in Manhattan in 1892 and Thomas Edison partnered up with Patrick Kenny to patent the “Facsimile Telegraph”, issued on July 19, 1892.  The machine was capable of transmitting words written on a piece of paper to a remote location, where the writing was reproduced on another piece of paper.

Today's Patent of the Day

Sure, now all we have to do is scan, email, or auto-fax, but in 1892?  If you read the patent, you will discover that the device actually relied on the indentions in the paper from the writing.  Amazing.  It is available for download at http://www.innovativeip.us/images/pat479184.7.19.pdf.  Enjoy!
